R.A. Baker To Head New Hillman Company

Robert A. Baker Jr. has been elected president of Hillman Manufacturing Company, which has been formed to consolidate and focus on certain of the engineering and manufacturing companies owned by The Hillman Company.

The new group has approximately 1,600 employees and is expected to produce sales approaching $100 million in 1977. The Hillman Company is a privately owned Pittsburgh, Pa., corporation with diversified operations and investments.

Hillman Manufacturing is engaged in broadly diversified areas of engineering and manufacturing.

Operations include barge and towboat design and manufacturing and marine transportation.

These growing functions will continue to serve the energy needs of mid-America through transportation of fuels in all forms, as well as serving shippers of ores, grain, fertilizers and other basic commodities and heavy manufactured products.

In the environmental area, Hillman Manufacturing will focus on the fabrication and erection of sophisticated air and water pollution control devices. A company in the new group provides plant engineering and construction for the gas and oil industry, with emphasis on the processing of natural gas.

Another company in the group designs and manufactures equipment for sugar and soybean producers and machinery for further processing of these agricultural products.

In other companies that are members of this new group, Hillman Manufacturing has structural steel and specialty fabricating capacity available in Central and Midwest states, as well as the Southeastern region. Other activities in these areas of the U.S.

include the building of recreational vehicles and steel warehousing.

Mr. Baker, who will concentrate on growth and coordination of the manufacturing and engineering operations, came from Westinghouse Electric Corporation with a background in marketing and production of a wide range of products which serve electric utilities and heavy manufacturing industries.

Mr. Baker received his B.S.

degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University and holds a certificate from the Program for Management Development of the Harvard Business School.
