San Francisco Group Honors Barney Evans As 'Man-Of-The-Year'

The Port of the Golden Gate Chapter of The Propeller Club of the United States recently awarded its "Man-of-the-Year" honor to Barney Evans, public relations director, Crowley Maritime Corporation, San Francisco, Calif. In awarding the silver tray, emblematic of The Propeller Club's Big Wheel Award, at the organization's meeting in the Sheraton Palace Hotel, San Francisco, Capt. John Doherty, vice president, Pacific Far East Line and president of the Golden Gate Chapter, cited the many contributions of time and effort of Mr. Evans toward furtherance of the important aims and programs of The Propeller Club.

Mr. Evans has been active in maritime and civic affairs for many years. In addition to his activities in The Propeller Club, both local and national, he is a member of the Mariners Club, Binnacle Club, Apostleship of the Sea, National Defense Transportation Association, Navy League of the United States, San Francisco Traffic Club, Commonwealth Club of California, Save San Francisco Bay Association, and the Maritime Writers Association.

Mr. Evans has served 26 years with Crowley Maritime Corporation, San Francisco- based operator of the world's largest fleet of tugs, barges, offshore oil support vessels and other specialized marine equipment.

He is also now in his 15th year as executive secretary-treasurer of the Western Shipbuilding Association, which represents shipyards and allied industries — both management and labor — on the West Coast of the United States.
