Atlantic Marine To Build Cat-Powered Drill Barge For Mecom Company

Atlantic Marine, Inc. of Ft.

George Island, Fla., h a s been awarded another contract to cons t r u c t an inland SCR mechanical drill barge f o r t h e John W. Mecom Company of Houston. A t l a n t ic Marine recently delivered a similar unit to t h e Mecom Company.

The drilling unit of the 200- foot by 54-foot by 14-foot barge is powered by Caterpillar D399 diesel engines. Outfitting of the barge will be completed at the Mecom facility a t Hitchcock, Texas.

Contract schedules call f o r the drill barge to be delivered to Mecom in October 1981.

Atlantic Marine, located at the intersection of t h e St. Johns River and the Intracoastal Waterway, was established in 1964. The Jacksonville area shipyard constructs steel-hulled fishing boats, workboats, and specialized vessels for offshore and river use.
