Rayco Shipbuilders & Repairs, Inc. of Bourg, La., recently announced the signing of a construction contract with Scott Paper Company, Southern Operations, Mobile, Ala., for the construction of two river towboats, one 2,000-hp and one 1,400-hp.

The 2,000-hp towboat will measure 98 feet by 34 feet by 8 feet and have a 6y2-foot operating draft. The vessel will be powered by twin Caterpillar 3512 engines.

The 1,400-hp towboat will measure 90 feet by 34 feet by 8 feet and have a 5y2-foot operating draft. The vessel will be powered by twin Caterpillar 3508 engines.

Both vessels will be outfitted with a pair of Caterpillar 55-kw generators.

Designed by Design Associates, Inc., of New Orleans, both vessels feature molded tunnels in way of the propellers. The two steering rudders and four flanking rudders will insure optimum maneuverability.

Both vessels will be used to transport logs to the Scott Paper Company plant in Mobile, and are scheduled for delivery this spring.
