Transas Navi-Sailor 2400

Now Used By USCG

The U.S. Coast Guard recently issued an All Coast Guard message that sanc- tions the use of the Transas NaviSailor 2400 ECDIS for paper-less navigation.

This new policy applies to U.S. Coast

Guard vessels less than 1,600 gt includ- ing the two new classes of Buoy Ten- ders. Medium Endurance Cutters, and

Coastal Patrol Boats. The Transas

Navi-Sailor 2400 is installed onboard the U.S. Coast Guard Mako Class (WPB 87) coastal patrol boat.

The U.S Coast Guard established this new policy guidance to deal with differ- ent types of electronic chart systems that have been installed and used onboard

USCG cutters for several years. This includes both ECDIS and less capable

Electronic Chart Systems (ECS). Col- lectively, the USCG refers to these types of systems as Electronic Charting and

Integrated Navigation System (ECINS).

This designation pertains to both gov- ernment-developed and commercial electronic charting systems.
