Blessey Marine Services hasn't asked us to build a single barge. They've asked us to build a fleet.

Since 1991, Jeffboat has built over 30 hot-oil and clean-service tank barges for Blessey Marine

Services. The reason they keep coming back to us is the same reason you should come to us for your tank barge needs. Jeffboat barges are built to last. By experienced and dedicated barge builders using quality materials and state-of- the-art systems and processes. Whether you want to build a fleet of tank barges or just one, give us a call at 812-288-0200.

In most cases the shipowner continues to order direct or seek quotes from his usual suppliers.

Today we have 25 ship owners buying from 175 contracted suppliers and a fur- ther 800 suppliers have had orders through TradeNet."

Computer aided design and manufac- turing (CAD/CAM) has revolutionized ship design, construction and repair.

Now CAD/CAM is being integrated with e-commerce.

Tribon in Malmo, Sweden is a leader in design and information systems for shipyards, and has now added a "market- place" to their CAD/CAM systems.

According to Tribon's Magnus Feldt, "A designer can select a component and vir- tually place it into the three-dimensional product model of the ship."

That gives users access to a lot of infor- mation about that component, such as specifications, service availability, pre- sentations about the manufacturer, or detailed drawings. "If the component fits your need, you can order it directly with our 'Tribon.com' marketplace," he says. "You can extract all design and produc- tion information needed to build the ship.

The product model can be delivered to the ship owner/operator together with the real ship. As all information on the com- ponents and systems will be stored in the product model, this can be used for main- tenance and product life-cycle support," says Feldt.

Tribon.com is open, says Feldt, which means it works with any CAD/CAM sys- tem. And it is neutral, in that it doesn't favor any particular shipyards or suppli- ers. Since Tribon's site is a subscription- based service, buying something via the site has no additional line-item charges or commissions.
