A 180-foot by 40-foot offshore supply vessel being built for Arthur Levy Boat Service, Inc.
was launched recently at the Moss Point, Miss., Division of Halter Marine Services, Inc.
The new vessel, the Lincoln Seahorse, is designed and built to operate anywhere in the world where the exploration for, and production of oil is taking place.
The vessel is equipped with a bulk mud system of four vertical tanks with a total capacity of 3,600 cubic feet of dry bulk mud.
She is equipped with two Caterpillar D-399 engines rated at 1,125 horsepower at 1,225 revolutions per minute, and has a free-running speed of approximately 12 knots. She swings two stainless-steel four-bladed propellers with a diameter each of 84 inches on ABS Grade 2, 9-inchdiameter forged-steel propeller shafts.
Auxiliary equipment on the Lincoln Seahorse includes two General Motors 8V71 diesel engines driving 98-kw generators, and the boat is fitted with two 1,800-pound Danforth anchors with a total of 1,440 feet of 1%-inch high-strength stud-link chain. An Orbitral hydraulic steering system is at two stations inside the pilothouse.
Halter Marine Services, Inc., whose main offices are in New Orleans, La., operates six shipyards in the United States and is the world's largest builder of offshore support vessels. The company is known for its variety of crewboats, supply boats, tugs, towboats, military patrol boats, and custom-designed vessels for specialized services.
