  • Harrison G. Rowe has been appointed general manager of the San Francisco Division of Todd Shipyards Corporation, succeeding Angel Garate who has retired after a long Todd career, according to an announcement by Arthur W. Stout Jr., president of Todd.

Ross J. Jeffrey has been appointed assistant general manager, succeeding Mr. Rowe in that position.

Mr. Rowe holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, and served in the Navy during World War II. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of California. He began his career with Todd in 1948 as an estimator, and worked as a contract administrator and technical supervisor. He was named assistant general manager in 1974.

Mr. Jeffrey attended the University of California. He began his association with Todd in 1948 as a shipwright, worked as a ship supervisor, project manager for several major repair jobs, and was named senior contract administrator in 1974.

Mr. Garate's association with Todd dates back 50 years to 1927 with a predecessor firm, Johnson Iron Works in New Orleans.

He left shipbuilding in 1935 for a period of five years but returned to Todd-Johnson Dry Docks, New Orleans in 1940 as an estimator until 1944, when he was transferred to New York. He served the corporation in New York in the central estimating department during the late 1940s, then as assistant general manager and later general manager of the Brooklyn Division, and as general manager of the San Francisco Division since 1970.
