  • The second of two Class IV icebreakers being constructed for Gulf Canada Resources Inc. has been launched at Burrard Yarrows Corporation's Vancouver Division. The vessel, named Terry Fox, is 88 meters long overall and has a displacement of 6,910 tons.

Designed by German & Milne, she is scheduled for multipurpose operation in the Beaufort Sea off northern Canada. The vessel is powered by four Stork Werkspoor 8TM 410 diesel engines, each developing 5,800 bhp at 600 rpm. The Terry Fox is scheduled for completion June 1983, and is the sister vessel of the Kalvik, launched at Burrard Yarrows Corporation's Victoria Division on April 2, 1983.

The sponsor for the Terry Fox was Mrs. Rowena Guyn, whose husband, Howard Guyn, is manager of construction, Beaufort Sea Drilling Systems, a subsidiary of Gulf Canada Resources Inc.
