Stal Refrigeration, a specialized supplier of marine refrigeration systems, has received its first orders for centralized plants comprising a new system named Stalicon (STAL Individual Container Cooling System) for refrigerated containers onboard ships.
The system is now undergoing full scale tests at Stal's technical center in Norrkoping, Sweden.
The plants, valued at about $10- million, will be installed in partly refrigerated containerships under construction in Europe and Japan.
Three ships are being built for the Eurosal group of owners, and two ships for the Brazilian owner, Alianca.
Modern microcomputer technology has made it possible to develop the system, which includes a large number of control and measuring functions having a high degree of accuracy and safety. Stalicon is constructed as a complete unit for each stack of containers, with the important difference that each container is now individually cooled.
