SEAaT (Shipping Emissions
Abatement and Trading) announced that International Paint Ltd. has joined the group as an associate member. SEAaT and its members call for a reduction in emissions from shipping using technological as well as operational methods facilitated by an emissions trading scheme.
New York State Canal Corp. on
Hudson River PCB Project
The Canal Corporation commends
General Electric’s decision to contin- ue their participation in the impor- tant environmental clean-up of the
Upper Hudson River and Champlain
Canal. Unfortunately the project still does not address the navigational needs of the canal, which could not be dredged for the past 30 years due to the contamination in the water- way. If the work plan does not change, at the end of the project in five to seven years the navigation channel will still be clogged with about 80% of the PCBs that are in place today. The Canal Corporation and nearly all of the municipalities bordering the waterway believe now is the most cost-effective time to address navigational needs. 110-Year-Old Ship to Become

The Chauncy Maples Project, Lake
Malawi’s first mobile health clinic.
Through this support and that of other organizations, the M/V
Chauncy Maples, a 110 year old ship and the oldest floating ship in Africa, will be used to treat Malawians living around this 350 mile lake.
SNAME announced its call for papers for its 2011 annual meeting
November 16 – 18, 2011 in
