Architects. Powered by quad MAN D2862 engines, Reintjes
WVS440 gears, and Hamilton Jet HTX52 waterjets, KARL is capable of an ef? cient 40 knot cruise speed while reducing operating expenses by over 40%. KARL is equipped with an exhaust gas aftertreatment system with Selective Catalytic Re- duction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) that inject
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) ? uid into the exhaust converting exhaust emissions into nitrogen and water. KARL meets Cali- fornia Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements delivering an incredibly clean, low-emission operation while also lowering fuel consumption. Speed, ef? ciency, low operating costs, and clean operations set KARL apart from any other ferries operat- ing today. KARL is an integral part of the ferry system’s daily operations that transports over 2.5 million passengers each year. Because of KARL’s exceptional range, operating ef? cien- cy and speed, KARL is primarily used on SFBF’s longer routes.
