Weathernews (WNI). Formally founded in Japan in the 1990s with the acquisition of Ocean Routes, its tendrils reach back to the U.S. military in the 1950s. In the name of safety, in the name of fuel ef? ciency, in the name of ef? cient fuel management, weather routing is much more intensive than a simple weather forecast.
