Manual gear operators for Chinese natural gas project

Rotork’s compact 242 Series manual gear operators are entering deployment in China. The company received orders from China Valves Hanwei for an undisclosed natural gas project. The 242 Series manual quarter-turn gear operators are ideal for low-torque applications. They feature a cast iron IP67 watertight enclosure, a ductile iron wormwheel, polytetrafuoroethylene (PTFE) thrustwashers, and adjustable end stop screws. Rotork says the gear operators are suitable for operating ball, butterfy, and plug valves.

Conical diamond technology

Smith Bits, a Schlumberger company, introduced the Stinger conical diamond technology last month. The bit features an ultra- thick polycrystalline diamond layer that is thicker than conventional

PDC cutters. The Stinger element enables high-point loading to fracture rock more effciently, thereby increasing ROP in sandstone, shale, and limestone. A recent Bakken case study showed a 46% increase in ROP when SHARC PDC bits were ftted with Stinger and 16mm cutters.
