People, Company & Product News from Ocean Business Ocean Business 2013, held A pril 9-11, 2013 in Southampton, U.K., recently concluded another suc-cessful run, three days packed with conferences, exhibition and on -water demonstrations. Held ever y two years since 2007 at the National Oceanography Center, Southampton, Ocean Business has quickly emerged as one of the leading subsea events, draw ing an estimated 300 ex hibitors and 4,000 attendees.While there were plenty of new technology and business deals an-nounced during the course of the exhibition, the bi ggest news came from the show or ganizer itself, which announced on day two that it ? Intelli -gent Exhibitions Ltd. ? had been sold to Diversi ed Business Communications U.K. The ac quisition also includes Off -shore Surve y and Ocean Careers, which will continue to be organized by the In-telligent Exhibitions team, according to the press release. The deal, which was consummated for an undisclosed sum, also includes LIDAR In ternational and LIDAR Euro pe, which will be trans-ferred to Diversi ed?s of ces in Port -land, Maine. The ensuing pages high-lights much of the news eminatin g from Southampton last month.Ocean Business Sold Partrac, Rockland Scienti Þ c Announce Partnership Partrac and Rockland Scienti c announced a strategic part- nership to provide turbulence measurement solutions for the U.K. and European tidal energy industry. Rockland Scien- ti c, based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, specializes in the design and manufacture of turbulence measurement in- strumentation while Glasgow-based consultants, Partrac, fo- cus on marine data collection and processing at complex tidal energy sites. Partrac Director, Kevin Black, said ?We are very pleased to add this unique capability to our suite of measure-ment services; we can offer to the commercial tidal energy sector multi- and single-point measurements across the blade span in both the  ow and wake- eld of a tidal energy device, as well as map the turbulence  eld spatially across prospective sites.? As a result of this partnership, Rockland and Partrac are the  rst to offer an integrated approach to gathering marine tur- bulence data throughout the life cycle of tidal energy projects. Such information is useful to te optimization of turbine de-sign, site selection, turbine layout assessment and to an en-hanced understanding of environmental impact. This latest acquisition is Ashtead?s second signi cant order for 6G in the last 12 months, further strengthening the company?s  eet of Com- patt 6 transponders, including various sound velocity, digi- quartz and inclinometer sensors, GyroCompatts, RovNav 6 LBL transceivers and both omni and directional Wideband Sub Mini transponders.
