DEL MAR OCEANOGRAPHIC

Del Mar Oceanographic (DMO) was founded in late 2015 to bridge the gap between high-resolution data re- quirements and the power and logistical constraints of traditional marine sampling. By leveraging renewable energy, DMO enables the economical collection of high- resolution data for ? ne-scale phenomena over long, cli- matological time frames.

DMO’s ? agship solution is the Wirewalker, an autono- mous, wave-powered vertical pro? ling system. Unlike tra- solved oxygen sensors, and plankton imagers, for months ditional motorized or buoyancy-driven pro? lers, the Wire- at a time without maintenance. As the surface buoy moves with al-time telemetry and custom-ballasted vehicles designed the waves, an internal cam mechanism ratchets the pro? ler for speci? c research objectives. The result is a 2-D image down a jacketed wire to a pre-set depth (up to 1,000 me- of the water column with temporal and spatial resolution, ters). The Bonita, the new “mini” Wirewalker, allows ocean payload.
