SHIP REPAIR YARDS Boston Harbor New York Harbor Baltimore Harbor Beau-nont, Texas Los Angeles Harbor San Francisco Harbor SHIPBUILDING YARDS Sparrows Point, Md. Beaumont, Texas FOUNDRY & PROPELLER PLANT Staten Island, New York LAST YEAR, Bethlehem's Sparrows Point Shipyard deliv-ered more commercial ship tonnage than any other American yard: nearly 114,000 dwt. THIS YEAR, Sparrows Point has delivered?or has on order to deliver?about 210,000 dwt of commercial ship tonnage, nearly double last year's performance. NEXT YEAR?in the midst of this continuing activity?the yard plans to complete a massive shipbuilding basin for the construction of ships over 1,000 feet long and with capacities greater than 200,000 dwt. As part of a huge, multi-million-dollar building program now underway here, the basin (dotted outline in photo) will complement the yard's five existing major launching ways. This program also includes a new sand-blasting and painting building, and a new panel shop, the key to a new system for speeding up the fabrication and handling of ship subassemblies. Today and tomorrow, you'll find a strong part of this nation's shipbuilding effort being carried out at Bethlehem's Sparrows Point Shipyard. Here is where the action is; and we're at your service.
