Peter J. Brix Elected AWO Board Chairman —Officers Reelected, New Directors Named
Peter J. Brix, president and gen- eral manager of Knappton Tow- boat Company, Portland, Ore., was elected chairman of the board of The American Waterways Op- erators, Inc. at the annual meet- ing of the nationwide trade associ- tion of the barge and towing in- dustry held recently in Williams- burg, Va.

City, who has served as AWO chairman for the last year. Mr.
Blohm continues as a director of the Association.
Braxton B. Carr was elected to his fourteenth annual term as president of the Association, which has headquarters in Washington,
D.C., and field offices in New York and New Orleans.
William E. Cleary was elected to his fifteenth annual term as sec- retary-treasurer. He operates the
Association's North Atlantic Reg- ional Office in New York City.
A lifelong resident of Portland,
Mr. Brix lias been associated with
Knappton Towboat Company since 1963. The company was founded by his grandfather in 1900, and op- erates in the states of Oregon,
Washington, and Idaho.
The new AWO chairman re- ceived a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Washing- ton in 1958 and a doctor of juris- prudence degree from Willamette
University, College of Law, Salem.
Ore., in 1961. From 1961 to 1963. he served in the Military Police
Corps of the United States Army.
He was elected a director of The
American Waterways Operators.
Inc., in 1968. He has also worked actively as a member of the As- sociation's legislative committee, and budget and finance committee.
Mr. Brix is secretary of the Pro- peller Club of the LTnited States.

Children's Home; and is a mem- ber of the Shipping Club. Portland

The vessel, to be powered by 660-total-bhp Caterpillar diesels, is being built for undisclosed inter- ests.
