The incredible sea voyage of Capt.William Andrews.

On July 21.1892. Captain William Andrews set sail, alone, from Atlantic City. New Jersey, and on September 20th he arrived at Palos. Spain.

His craft, the Sapolio. measured 14 feet 6 inches and he made it himself. Her rig was archaic. She had no engine and wasn't water- tight. As for Andrews, he didn't even have a flash- light.

But he had unbeliev- able courage, endurance and tenacity and his voy- age stands as one of the most remarkable in the his- tory of small boat sailing.

I had notes prepared and every day I would throw one over in a bottle. The notes gave my position and destination!" "It was about two feet wide and thirty feet long. I never saw anything like it in my life. It was a sea monster"

I had no water pump aboard and the boat was leaking so a sponge had to do.

I used it about every half hour!"
