For GE Gas Turbine

Business Operations

Dr. Spiridon N. Suciu

Dr. Spiridon N. Suciu has been appointed manager of the Techni- cal Resources Operation for Gen- eral Electric Gas Turbine Business

Operations, it has been announced by Whitman Ridgway, deputy di- vision general manager of the op- erations.

Dr. Suciu, in his new position, will be responsible for all research and development for GE's Gas

Turbine Business Operations. He will also have prime engineering responsibility for the design and development of all new gas turbine products and the development of advanced manufacturing processes.

Among the projects currently un- der way, are the development of more efficient gas turbines with greater power output and optim- ized for ecological considerations.

The Gas Turbine Business Op- eration is engaged in the produc- tion of gas turbines for worldwide use by electric utilities, gas trans- mission companies, process indus- tries such as petroleum and refin- ing companies, and the maritime industry.

In order to support the further growth in these areas, the Gas

Turbine Business Operation ex- pects to complete a new $6.7 mil- lion Gas Turbine Development

Laboratory in Schenectady, N.Y. by mid-1972. Dr. Suciu will also be responsible for this laboratory and its activities, in addition to his oth- er duties.

Dr. Suciu is presently manager of the Design Technology Opera- tion in the Aircraft Engine Group of the General Electric Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is respon- sible for directing advanced tech- nology and component design and development for all aircraft en- gines produced by the Aircraft En- gine Group.

AEIL Appoints Helm

Baltimore Terminal Mgr.

George R. Helm has been ap- pointed Baltimore terminal man- ager of American Export Isbrandt- sen Lines, according to Karl Wett- stein, vice president, freight, Amer- ican Export Freight, Inc.

Mr. Helm was previously with

Sea-Land Service, Inc., where he served as outport equipment con- trol manager based at Elizabeth,

N.J., and as terminal manager at

Portsmouth, Va.

Avondale Contract

To Supply LASH Ships

Rice Barton Corporation, Wor- cester, Mass., in conjunction with its subsidiary, Pine Tree Engineer- ing, Brunswick, Maine, has been awarded a contract for seven ship sets of deck equipment for the sec- ond series of LASH (Lighter

Aboard Ship) vessels by Avondale

Shipyards, Inc., Avondale. La. In making the announcement, Win- ship B. Moody Sr., president and chief executive officer of Rice Bar- ton, stated that under the terms of the agreement equipment design will be performed by Pine Tree

Engineering, while Rice Barton will handle the manufacturing at its Worcester plant.

Active participation in modern, innovative marine engineering pro- jects is nothing new for Pine Tree

Engineering. The deck equipment for the first series of LASH ves- sels was also designed by Pine

Tree Engineering, as was the deck equipment for the three Lykes

Brothers sea barges being built by the Quincy Division of General

Dynamics. Another recent joint venture is equipment for Bath Iron
