Irving Trust Co. announced that it has established a new marine transport department for the pur- pose of handling shipping industry accounts, loans and business de- velopment. Heading the new de- partment is Augustus L. Putnam, formerly the bank's regional vice president for Europe. Assisting him are Joseph Metzger, vice president;

Donald A. Conzo, assistant vice president, and Richard C. Pouch, assistant secretary.

Mr. Robeson, who joined Ber- wind Lines as executive vice presi- dent in 1971, is a graduate of the

Kings Point and had worked in various executive capacities with

Matson Lines in San Francisco,

Calif.

Mr. Rodriguez, a graduate of the

University of Puerto Rico with a degree in business administration and law, is a member of the Ameri- can Bar Association and is a Certi- fied Public Accountant. Before joining Industrial Molasses in 1969, he was president and general man-

Mr. Silva studied business ad- ministration, majoring in manage- ment at the University of Puerto

Rico, and San Diego City College in California. He is a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and is past commander of Post 22 of the American Legion. He work- ed in various executive positions in Puerto Rico and in Caracas,

Venezuela, before joining Indus- trial Molasses in 1963.

Mr. McComas also described a major expansion program proposed by Berwind Lines to provide equip- ment needed to meet demands of its daily St. Thomas and St. Croix shipping service. A new ship has been added to its fleet and almost three-quarters of a million dollars has been allocated for backup equipment, including all types of trailers and cargo handling equip- ment, and a new terminal in the

Isla Grande area of San Juan.

Corporation, Los Angeles Division, were introduced to the members prior to the presentation of the meeting program.

Comdr. Richard Rounsevelle,

USCG, presented a paper, "Recrea- tional Boating Safety Standards," detailing the Coast Guard require- ments for small boats. Still pictures of recreational boating traffic and accidents emphasized the need for small boats to be properly built, equipped and operated. The recrea- tional vessel accident rate, accord- ing to the author, could be greatly reduced if all rules and regulations were property observed.

After a lively discussion of the paper, Commander Rounsevelle stated that the Coast Guard regula- tions were being updated and re- vised to meet the requirements of the advancing boating technology.
