On Ferro-Cement In

Marine Environment

Even though cem'ent was being used to fabricate marine craft in the 19th century, very few people in the marine industry have a working knowledge of this mate- rial. In an attempt to remedy this situation, The Society of Naval

Architects and Marine Engineers

Technical and Research Program, through Task Group HS-6-4 (Fer- ro-Cement) of the hull structure committee, has culled most of the pertinent literature on ferro-cement and presented the most useful in

Report R-14, "References on Ferro-

Cement in the Marine Environ- ment."

This comprehensive list of over 275 references on this subject dat- ing from 1897 to 1972 attempts to answer many of the questions that have been raised about ferro-ce- ment in the marine environment.

The bibliographic report attempts to give references which answer questions on standards of construc- tion, the nature and control of the material, and assurance of quality.

The references are arranged chronologically and alphabetically by author for easy reference. The majority of the articles are of a technical nature, but a few are his- torical looks at attempts to use cement in the marine environment. ... with the proven superiority of Caterpillar-built diesel marine engines and power units (60 Hp to 1300 Hp) or marine ships service, auxiliary, or standby electric sets (50KW to 900KW). ...H, O.
