Cunard Steamship

Tankers To Be Built

By Davie Quebec Yard

The Export Development Corpora- tion (EDC) has announced a loan of up to $30.4 million to cover 80 percent of the sale price of two tank- ers to be built in Quebec for Cunard

Steamship Co. Ltd. of England.

The corporation said the two 39,000-ton product carrying tankers will be built by Davie Shipbuilding

Ltd. at its yards in Lauzon, Que- bec, Canada, for delivery in March and May 1975.

The sale is being financed on terms which require a down payment of 20 percent by Cunard with the bal- ance payable in 16 semiannual install- ments after delivery. The EDC loan is for the 80 percent to be paid later.

The actual purchase price will be about $35 million.

Chemicals, it was announced by

Robert W. Gerwig, vice president of Continental Oil Company and gen-eral manager of chemicals op- erations.

Ethylene landed at the terminal will be processed at the company's nearby Lake Charles, La. manufac- turing complex. Engineering and construction of the terminal and associated facilities are now under way.

IHC Holland describing its newly developed HDK marine diesel en- gine. The HDK is a two-stroke crosshead design which affords efficient separation of crankcase and combustion section, making the unit ideally suited for opera- tion on heavy fuels.

HDK engines are available with outputs ranging from 1,455 to 9,7C)0 hp. The number of cylinders can vary from 3 to 10 on in-line units, and from 10 to 20 on engines of the V-type. The maximum op- erating speed is 375 rpm. Total output of HDK engines sold since their introduction in 1972 is more than 75,000 hp.
