Charter To Shaheen

Shaheen Natural Resources Com- pany, Inc., has taken possession of the Eleftiheropolis, a 281,010-dead- weight-ton very large crude carrier (VLCC) under a long-term charter from its owners, Sanko Steamship

Company Limited.

Built in Sasebo Heavy Industries

Company Limited's shipyard, Sase- bo, Japan, the vessel was named and delivered to its owner, who then presented the tanker to the charterer. The vessel was accepted by Eugene L. McDaniels, vice president of Shaheen Natural Re- sources. The Eleftheropolis joins the Kyokku Maru, a 233,000-ton

The Eleftheropolis is 1,115 feet overall, has a beam of 175 feet, and a draft of 69.8 feet. It can cruise at 16 knots and carry 2,000,000 barrels of crude oil. It will sail under a Li- berian flag, with Monrovia as its port of registry.

John M. Shaheen, president of

Shaheen Natural Resources, praised the workmanship and skill of the shipbuilder. He said Japanese-'built ships plying the waters of the world are making a significant con- tribution to international amity and understanding which is enhanced by trade between nations.

The Eleftheropolis will sail im- mediately, and be put in service be- tween Persian Gulf ports and New- foundland Refining Company Lim- ited's 100,000-barrel-per-day oil re- finery in Come By Chance, New- foundland, as well as to other re- fining facilities now under con- struction by Shaheen Natural Re- sources.
