Webb Institute of Naval Archi- tecture, it was announced recently by Frank J. Graziano, chairman of the board of trustees. Admiral

Bryan will assume his duties on

July 1, succeeding Rear Adm.

PHB Receives Contract For

Offshore Bulk Unloading

Terminal In Argentina

PHB-Fordertechnik of West

Germany has been awarded a con- tract for the construction of an import/export transshipment ter- minal for loading and unloading ores, coal, cereals, and fertilizer from one ship to another. A re- constructed bulk carrier is to be the basis of the new facility. It will include two ship-loader/un- loaders for the handling of bulk cargo, each with a capacity of 1,000 tons per hour; bunkers, vi- brating troughs, individually con- trolled belt conveyor systems for each loader, and facilities for dust- free loading of small oceangoing ships. The terminal will unload vessels of up to 200,000 dwt, and load, by means of a special trans- fer system, smaller ships and oceangoing barges up to 30,000 dwt. These small ships and barges will provide shuttle service for industrial plants at the harbor of

Buenos Aires and the Rio de la

Plata.

The contract is valued at ap- proximately 11 million Deutsch- marks, and consists of consulta- tion, planning, construction and commissioning of the terminal.

Admiral Bryan holds the Grad- uate Professional degree of naval engineer from Massachusetts In- stitute of Technology and the

Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Acad- emy. During his career as an en- gineering duty officer in the U.S.

Navy, he has had extensive expe- rience in the repair, design and construction of Naval ships. He is presently the president of the

American Society of Naval Engi- neers and a member of The So- ciety of Naval Architects and

Marine Engineers.

His engineering education serv- ices include the post of senior advisor to the Chief of Naval

Personnel for the Education and

Training of Engineering Duty

Personnel of the Navy, and mem- bership on the visiting committee for the Department of Ocean En- gineering, Massachusetts Insti- tute of Technology.

Webb Institute of Naval Ar- chitecture, founded in 1889 and located in Glen Cove, N.Y., is the only four-year college in the

United States solely devoted to education in the field of naval architecture and marine engineer- ing. It is a fully accredited pri- vate school which awards the de- gree of bachelor of science to its graduates.
