Waterways Barge Seeks

Title XI On 50 Barges

To Cost $14 Million

Waterways Barge Partnership,

Greenville, Miss., has applied for a Title XI guarantee to aid in fi- nancing the construction of 50 covered hopper barges. The 195- foot-long, 1,500-dwt jumbo barges currently are under construction at Equitable Shipyards, New Or- leans, La. All the vessels are ex- pected to be delivered by the end of this year, and will be operated on the U.S. inland waterways.

If approved, the Title XI guar- antee would cover $12,250,000, which is 871/- percent of the $14,- 000,000 total estimated cost of the 50 barges.

Ashland Oil Sells

Levingston Shipbuilding

To Paden Corporation

Ashland Oil, Inc. of Ashland,

Ky., has announced the sale of its Levingston Shipbuilding and

Levingston-Armadillo units to

Paden Corporation. Ashland re- ceived total consideration of ap- proximately $26 million, of which $19 million was paid in cash with the balance handled through de- ferred payment arrangements.

Levingston Shipbuilding de- signs and assembles marine equip- ment, including semisubmersibles and jackup drilling rigs, drilling ships, bulk carriers, derrick and tanker barges, and other marine vessels. The firm is also engaged in major marine repair projects at its shipyards in Orange and Port

Arthur, Texas.

The sale of Levingston was completed as part of Ashland's overall program for redeployment of assets to maximize returns to its shareholders.

Norfolk, Va., has been awarded a $5,153,186 fixed-price contract for the construction of an oil spill prevention facility at the Naval
