SUPERINTENDENT

MARINE ENGINEER

Supervise and direct the installation and repair of marine power plants, propulsion systems, heating and ventilating systems, and other mechanical, electrical, electronic and naviga- tional equipment in ships and related dockside facilities at shipyard; study drawings and speci- fications to examine various mechanical units of vessels during construction for faulty work quality and compliance with specifications; con- duct tests and evaluate operations of marine engines and equipment during equipment test- ing and shake down cruises. Conduct dock and sea trials of propulsion and other engines; ex- amine installation and operation of electrical wiring and other machinery; supervise and co- ordinate the activities of shipyard workers; pre- pare recommendations for work and initiate procurement of materials; draw job specifica- tions; maintain records of engineering costs for each vessel.

Requirements: Ten years experience as first or chief engineer on diesel and steam engine sea going vessels; chief engineer motor license; associate degree or equivalent in merchant marine studies.

Salary $32,500
