New Mississippi Barge

Terminal To Be Built

In Jo Daviess County

The Army Corps of Engineers recently issued permits to the

Dubuque Sand & Gravel Company of East Dubuque, 111., for the im- mediate start of construction of a barge terminal in Jo Daviess

County, at approximate Missis- sippi River mile 574.6.

The 24-acre harbor will be 2,200 feet long and 450-500 feet wide. A 1,308-foot by 200-foot- wide channel will be constructed from the Mississippi River to the harbor. Depth of the channel and harbor will be approximately 20 feet. The terminal is designed for storage or intermodal transfer of commodities. Approximately 75 acres adjacent to the harbor will be available for storage or fur- ther development.

The site is adjacent to U.S.

Highway 20 and is served by the

Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. It is approximately three highway miles southeast of the Julien Du- buque Bridge linking Iowa and

Illinois.
