Title XI Loan Increase
Approved By Mar Ad
For Chemical Carrier
The Maritime Administration has increased its Title XI loan guarantee commitment on the
Chilbar, a chemical carrier owned by Chilbar Shipping Co., from $24,244,000 to $27,148,000.
The recently announced in- crease was a result of the inclu- sion of the cost of the vessel's stern section in the computations of the ship's actual cost. The stern section of the Chilbar was taken from a ship called Eagle
Traveler. Its integration into the design of the otherwise new chemical tanker was not dis- cussed in Chilbar's original Title
XI guarantee application.
The Chilbar was built by New- port News Shipbuilding Co., New- port News, Va., and is currently in service. The vessel's Title XI guarantee covers 871/, percent of its $31,027,162 actual cost.

New High-Pressure Pump
Has Speeds To 20,000 RPM —Literature Available
Literature has been published on a new Worthington high-speed pump with helical gearing for quiet dependable operations that can reach speeds up to 20,000 rpm.
Recommended for high-pres- sure applications, the horizontal high-speed pumps have capacities to 300 gpm and heads to 4,000 feet. They were developed for re- finery, chemical and petrochemi- cal applications such as hydro- carbon charge and injection services.
Horizontal configuration of the pumps eliminates the need for vertical motor supports and avoids excessive bearing loading inherent in vertical models. Field maintenance is easier and any driver can be used. The pump de- sign features a closed, angled- vane impeller for stable head characteristics and high efficien- cies. The gear box is fan-cooled, eliminating the need for water cooling in most applications.
