Brown & Root Receives $30-Million Contract For

Zapata Production Platform

Design work is in progress on a production platform, a job awarded Brown & Root, Inc. by

Zapata Corporation. Brown &

Root, a Halliburton subsidiary, is one of the world's largest en- gineering construction companies.

The $30-million contract calls for design, fabrication and instal- lation of an eight-pile, two-deck platform with 18 drilling slots.

Brown & Root's Green Bayou marine yard in Houston will fab- ricate the decks and jacket pieces.

The platform will be assembled at the company's Port Aransas yard, Harbor Island.

The platform will be set in 658 feet of water in East Breaks

Block 110 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Design engineering began in

November and fabrication will start in February 1983. Installa- tion is scheduled for mid-1984.

Newport News Awarded $3.1 -Billion Contract For

Two Nimitz Aircraft Carriers

Newport News Shipbuilding,

Newport News, Va., has been awarded a $3,143,000,000 fixed- price-incentive-fee contract for the construction of two Nimitz- class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers to be designated CVN 72 and CVN 73. These two ships will be the fifth and sixth ships of their class and have delivery schedules of December 1989 and

December 1991, respectively.

These ships will be built by New- port News Shipbuilding in their

North Yard facility utilizing mod- ular construction techniques in conjunction with a crane capable of lifting up to 900 tons. The

Washington, D.C., is the con- tracting activity (N00024-83-C- 2033).
