Cadiz Bay, Spain.

Successful Trials Held

For Heavy Lift Vessel Sibig Venture

Constructed by Astilleros Es- panoles S.A. (AESA), the heavy- lift vessel Sibig Venture suc- cessfully completed sea trials re- cently. The new ship is owned by International Transport Con- tractors (ITC) of Haarlem, Hol- land.

The purpose of the trials was to check and verify theoretical calculations, vessel's maneuver- ing characteristics in the fully floated condition, and immersion time from ballast to full immer- sion draft. The vessel can be ma- neuvered from the bow control station as well as from the con- ventional bridge aft.

The result of the trials proved successful as reported by the owner in a telex message from

FERNSTRU the vessel: "All calculations showed stunningly accurate fig- ures." The time for immersion was approximately six hours.

The draft conditions in the sail- ing mode are 8.65m fwd and 10.66m aft. The draft in the fully immersed condition is 18.7 me- ters fwd and 18.0m aft.

The level master in the cargo control room displays draft read- ings as well as soundings in the tanks, percent of tank full, filling or draining speed, and heeling angles and trim.

Raytheon Holds SatCom

Engineering Seminar

Raytheon Marine Company held a Maritime SatCom Train- ing Seminar at its New York of- fice at Staten Island's Pouch Ter- minal recently to provide Ray- theon technicians with a com- prehensive review of installation and service procedures for Satel- lite Communications equipment.

Raytheon recently announced its agreement to serve as exclusive sales agent in the United States,

Mexico, and Scandinavian coun- tries for Satellite Communica- tions equipment manufactured by

Japan Radio Company (JRC).

The SatCom equipment comple- ments the full line of high seas products provided by Raytheon

Marine Company, including

Bright Display radars, Automatic

Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA),

SatNav, Loran-C Doppler Speed

Logs, and Vessel Tracking Sys- tems, as well as many other com- mercial and workboat products.

The New York engineering ses- sion was part of Raytheon's on- going educational program to pro- vide highly proficient technicians for service and installation of all its products worldwide.

Tidewater Area Distributor

The J. Henry Holland Corpo- ration of Virginia Beach, Va., has been named a stocking distribu- tor for Nashville Bridge Com- pany (NABRICO), Nashville,

Tenn., products in the Greater

Tidewater Area.

One of the largest marine, con- tractor and mill supply houses on the East Coast, the corpora- tion serves all of the military in- stallations and local, state, and federal government facilities in the area as well as shipyard, ship repair, contractor, tugboat, and barge companies. The Greater

Tidewater Area includes Nor- folk, Portsmouth, Newport News,

Hampton, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, the eastern shore of Virginia, and the Lower Chesapeake Bay Area.
