Captain who will be under the general direction of the Port Captain; assist in the operation, general maintenance (excluding engine room and machinery) and annual dry-docking, repair and modification of State operated ferries and terminals. Assist in the recruitmentand selection process for the hire of Deck Officers. Prepares
Deck Officers vessel and work assignment schedules in coordinating officer relief and vaca- tion projections. Possess a thorough working knowledge of Vessel Documentation and the
Code of Federal Regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a U.S. Coast Guard license as
Master qualified for passenger vessels of at least 1600 gross tons and six years of maritime experi- ence, two of which were as a deck officer on a passenger-carrying ship.
Substitutions:
Service as a commanding officer of a commis- sioned government ship will substitute for the
Master's license.
A Bachelor's degree from a maritime academy will substitute for the experience on a year-for- year basis.

Applicants should have a strong technical background in design, construction and per- formance evaluation of small craft. Experi- ence with propulsion and auxiliary system de- sign is highly desirable.
Primary responsibilities include develop- ment of high speed patrol craft up to 130 feet, workboats and specialized vessels including surface effect ships, self-righting surf rescue boats and rigid hull inflatable boats. Other du- ties involve boat renovations/alterations, trade- off studies, project management, contractor li- aison and preparation of work statements and specifications.
