Slaybaugh Named Vice

President And COO For

Bombardier/Alco Power

Gilles Courville, interim presi- dent of Bombardier/Alco Power Inc. in Auburn, N. V., has announced the appointment of C. Jay Slay- baugh as vice president and chief operating officer.

Prior to joining Bombardier/Alco,

Mr. Slaybaugh was president and chief executive officer of Rock of

Ages Corporation in Barre, Ver- mont. He has served as CEO or COO of various manufacturing compa- nies, and as manager of mangement consulting in the San Francisco of- fice of Price Waterhouse and Com- pany.

On the Editorial Board of the

American Production and Inventory

Control Society, he is a senior mem- ber of the American Institute of

Industrial Engineers. He holds a BS degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA in marketing, both from the University of California at

Berkeley.

Bombardier/Alco Power is a lead- ing manufacturer of diesel engines used for marine propulsion, standby electric power generation, oil explo- ration, pumping, and locomotive ap- plications.

MARDATA Adds Baltic

Index To Its Maritime

Database Service

The Maritime Data Network (MARDATA) of Stamford, Conn., has added Baltic Freight Rate Index data to its on-line information ser- vice for ocean shipping. Subscribers can now access the Daily Baltic

Index and year-to-date activity in addition to detailed information on dry cargo shipments in the MAR-

DATA Charter Fixture database.

This index represents a statisti- cally valid sample of dry cargo voyages, weighted according to the importance of various markets, trade routes, and historical data, and will be utilized to settle Ocean

Freight Futures Contracts as an- nounced by the Baltic International

Freight Futures Exchange (BIB-

BEX) and the International Fu- tures Exchange (INTEX).

Freight Futures data for the Ber- muda-based INTEX will be avail- able via MARDATA when trading opens in May. It is expected that

BIFFEX activity will also be avail- able for MARDATA subscribers.

MARDATA, a leading supplier of database services to the internation- al maritime industry, has been com- piling and disseminating Charter

Fixture information on both tanker and dry cargo shipments since 1976.

Ogden Gets $26.5-Million

Navy Contract For Charter

Of Three Oil Tankers

Ogden Bulk Transport Inc. of

New York City has been awarded a $26,442,248 fixed-price with cost re- imbursement Navy contract for the one-year charter of three tankers—

Courier, Ranger, and Rover—for the transport of Department of De- fense petroleum products world- wide. The contract period ends by

March 1986. Contract funds would not have expired at the end of the current fiscal year. Forty-five bids were solicited and 20 offers were received. The Military Sealift Com- mand, Washington, D.C., is the con- tracting activity (N00033-85-C- 7002).
