AESA Wins Orders
From Cuba, Sweden;
Will Build Seven Ships
Spain's Astilleros Espanoles SA was recently awarded a five-vessel construction contract by Cuban shipping companies and a two-ship contract by a Swedish firm.
Under the Cuban contract, Em- presa Navegacion Mambisa, the largest shipping line in Cuba, has ordered three 314-1/2-foot-long re- frigerated cargo ships, and Empresa
Navegacion Caribe (Navcaribe) has ordered two 1,600 m3 LPG/ammo- nia carriers. The vessels will be con- structed at the builder's Juliana yard for a 1990 delivery.
The Swedish order, which was awarded by Laurin Maritime AB of
Gothenburg, calls for the construc- tion of two 46,000-dwt chemical/ products carriers. The vessels will be about 598 feet long, 105 feet wide and have a depth of 58 feet. The ships will be built at AESA's Sestao yard and delivered in December 1990.
The designs of all the vessels being built by AESA specify MAN
B&W Diesel main propulsion ma- chinery.
Each 262-foot LPG/ammonia car- rier will be powered by MAN B&W main machinery which will develop 2,480 bhp at 250 rpm, while the three reefers will each be powered by MAN B&W main engines sup- plying 4,560 bhp at 200 rpm.
The Swedish ships will each fea- ture MAN B&W engines developing 12,750 bhp at 102 rpm.

Free Literature Offered
On High-Tech Multi-Pak
Marine Trash Compactors
ICI Multi-Pak, Houston, Texas, is offering free literature on its latest state-of-the-art marine trash com- pactors for handling on-board waste.
New Marpol/Annex V regula- tions, which become effective Janu- ary 1, 1989, are generating consider- able interest in the three sizes of
Multi-Pak compactors, which range from a closet-sized unit (MP-30) de- signed for the smallest of vessels to the larger unit (MP-70) which han- dles 21,000 pounds of waste per day.
A recent test installation of an
MP-70 aboard the flagship of a ma- jor cruise line exceeded all their expectations, resulting in compactor orders for installation aboard six other vessels.
With worldwide attention on cleaning up the environment, the
Multi-Pak Trash Compactor offers safe, clean, and cost-effective means for handling waste aboard vessels
October, 1988 serving the inland waterways, har- bors and open seas. The user of the
Multi-Pak has a choice of packaging the waste in tightly secured plastic bags stored for discharging at a port/terminal/marina or utilizing biodegradable, heavy-duty, water- tight, cardboard boxes for longer storage.
