Simulating the Future for Safety and Savings
The Port of Los Angeles has selected
MarineSafety to assist in the validation of the planned design for WorldPort LA 2020. This validation will involve computer modeling of present and future outer and inner channels and turning basin designs. The computer models, which are inputs to a ship simulator, include: A full color visual scene, radar presentation, depth, bank and current effects and the response of various ships including a 300,000 DWT tanker.
By evaluating the performance of Pilots as they maneuver ships under various environmental conditions, simulation provides the link between engineering designs and future real-world operations. MarineSafety recently completed a project with the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers for the Port of
NY/NJ to evaluate improved waterway designs which will allow deeper draft containerships to operate in the port.
The MarineSafety Computer Aided
Operations Research Facility (CAORF) has assisted in designing optimum channels and waterways for many ports including Oakland,
Miami, Norfolk, Tampa and Mobile.
