FELS Gets $81-Million

Oil Rig Contract

It was recently announced that the Santa Fe International Corpora- tion has placed an order worth about $81,195,000 with Far East Le- vingston Shipbuilding Ltd. (FELS),

Singapore, for the construction of a jack-up oil rig. Delivery is scheduled for early 1992.

This award is the fourth of its kind that FELS has in its order- book, and is the third they will be building for Santa Fe. Choo Chiau

Beng, managing director, said that the order from Santa Fe "reflects the growing demand for a new gen- eration of jackups as...a cost-effec- tive alternative to semi-submersi- bles and platform rigs in harsh envi- ronment^]."

Meanwhile, Gordon M. Ander- son, the president of Santa Fe

Drilling, said that the company ex- pects to experience what he called "an escalating rig demand into the 90's." Mr. Anderson also said, "Santa Fe is committed to maintain a modern offshore drilling fleet."
