Vasa 46 Engine In R.I.

Wartsila Diesel North America,

Inc., announced it will manufacture the Vasa 46, the newest and largest

Wartsila Diesel engine, for the North

American shipbuilding and power generation market. The new facil- ity is at Quonset Point, R.I.

This facility will manufacture the

Vasa 12-, 16- and 18V46 engines. It will also package the Vasa 32 engine for main propulsion and power gen- eration applications in the North and Central American markets. The new venture will also design, manu- facture and market complete engine room modules suitable for use in the

U.S. Navy's strategic sealift ships, as well as commercial ships. "We are currently in the midst of producing a turnkey floating power plant for Guatemala that will con- tain 20 diesel engines generating 110 MW of power," said Wartsila
