The Raytheon Co. announced its

Space and Naval Warfare Systems

Command to evaluate and model a commercial operating system for ap- plication to a "mission critical" mili- tary system. Raytheon said that under the terms of the contract, the

Submarine Signal Division will in- vestigate the Next Generation com- puter Resource operating system,

POSIX, for use with Raytheon's Sub- marine Combat Command and Con- trol System Mark 2 (CCS Mk 2).

The contract calls for the evalua- tion and design of standard POSIX interfaces for a CCS Mk 2 hardware and software computer environ- ment. The company expects an eight-month design phase to be fol- lowed by modeling and system engi- neering work, beginning with the date of the contract award.

Gary Newchurch Named

Trinity General Manager

Gary L. Newchurch, a 28-year shipbuilding and ship repair vet- eran, has been named general man- ager of Trinity Marine-Beaumont, the largest of the twelve shipyards in the Trinity Marine Group.

The announcement was made by

Vincent Almerico, Jr., seniorvice- president of operations, for the

Gulfport, Miss.-based shipbuilding group. Prior to joining Trinity, Mr.

Newchurch had been employed by

McDermott, Inc., of New Orleans, since 1966 in a variety of positions in engineering and production man- agement at several McDermott fa- cilities. According to Mr. Almerico, "Gary Newchurch's experience fits well with our plans for Trinity Ma- rine-Beaumont. We will soon have two drydocks in Beaumont. Gary's experience in building and/or repair- ing vessels for Crowley, Moran,

Matson and others made him a tough competitor."

The Beaumont facility can build and repair vessels as large as 600 feet and can fabricate offshore rigs and platforms and associated com- ponents such as decks, production modules, jackets, etc.

Leevac Signs Contract To

Build Riverboat Casino

Leevac Shipyards, Inc. Jennings,

La., has announced the signing of a contract with P.R.C. Louisiana, Inc. for the construction of a 350-foot by 65-foot riverboat casino. The vessel was designed by DeJong and Lebet,

Inc., of Jacksonville, Fla. The pro- pulsion system will include two pro- pellers in addition to a stern paddlewheel. Leevac has also deliv- ered the Players Riverboat Casino to the Southern Illinois Riverboat

Casino Cruises. The vessel was de- signed by Rodney E. Lay & Associ- ates, of Jacksonville, Fla.

Leevac has also recently built and delivered three riverboat casinos, as well as building, converting and repairing supply boats, geophysical vessels, pushboats, and offshore and inland barges.
