BOATS AND BARGES
Peterson Builders And England-
Based Cougar Marine Team For
MK V Navy Program
Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) of
Sturgeon Bay, Wis. and Cougar Ma- rine, Ltd. of Hamble, England have agreed to a teaming arrangement which gives PBI access to Cougar's design expertise for asymmetrical catamaran hull forms to 150 feet (45 meters) in length and speeds in excess of 35 knots.
PBI also has the exclusive right
Michael J. Hitt to market the design and intellec- tual property rights for asymmetri- cal catamarans in the U.S. and
Canada.
The first product of this collabora- tion is PBI's submission in response to the U.S. Navy MK V SOC solicita- tion, a 70-foot (21-meter), all alumi- num catamaran craft, capable of sus- tained speeds in excess of 50 knots and a continuous cruising speed of 47 knots.
The craft is powered by two con- ventional MTU marine diesel en- gines, each driving a Rolla surface- piercing propeller, and a SeaTech marine diesel loitering engine driv- ing a Hamilton water jet.
Peter Sutcliffe, Cougar's com- mercial sales executive, said, "The direct parent craft of the PBI MK V
SOC was built under our Cougar Cat 2100 design by a Spanish yard and has been successfully accepted into service by the Spanish Customs Ser- vice to work Atlantic and Mediterra-
The Cougar Cat 2100 as a Spanish Customs Patrol Craft. nean coastlines."
According to PBI's director ofbusi- ness development, Allen Powell, "Having already supplied more than 30 65-foot (19.8-meter) MK III pa- trol craft to the U.S. Navy, based upon a conventional fast mono-hull design, we came to the conclusion that the time was right for us to offer something more advanced, but proven in operation.
We had known of Cougar Marine's pioneering work in the field of fast catamarans for some time and their second generation Cat 2100 ap- peared to meet the Navy's design parameters exactly."
In other PBI news, Michael J.
Hitt was named manager of mar- keting and sales. Mr. Hitt has been with the shipbuilder since 1972, hav- ing held postions in engineering, on materials management and estimat- ing. His duties will include develop- ing and expanding markets for the shipyard.

This Is our new AutoSHIP for
Windows™ program. We started with NURBS curves and surfaces, the high-end CAD standard.
Then we added new extensions to NURBS to allow extruded, rotated, blended and developable surfaces. Curves may be embedded on surfaces or even other curves. Any edge of a surface may be attached to a curve or anothersurface. Change the hull shape and have the deck, cabin, keel, even thrusters and moonpools adjust automatically.
AutoSHIP forWindows™ exports to AutoHYDRO, AutoSHIP
BUILDER, AutoPLATE, our nesting and NC cutting programs, DXF,
IGES, 3-D Studio™ and other major programs.

WHETHER YOU ARE USING the time-honored battens and splines or the latest computerized system from our competitors, your hull design system is now obsolete. But don't just take our word for it, ask the competition. Can they cut a bow thruster tunnel into a hull? Or change hull shape and have the thruster intersection update instantly and automatically? Can they display shaded, rendered models with up to 16.7 million colors on industry standard software? Can they support virtually any PC-compatible graphics adaptor, printer or plotter?
We can. Ask us for your free demo disks on AutoSHIP for Windows™ and your free catalog on our hull design, hydrostatics, ship construc- tion, resistance & propulsion and ship-board systems software. a u t o s h i p
