E-Series propeller and rudder shaft seals boost productivity... extend time between scheduled maintenance and dry dock- ings...save time and money...and limit pollution.

Proven John Crane maneBar mechanical seals provide maximum sealing integrity. They virtually eliminate excessive leakage, slash maintenance and reduce the volume of oily bilge water. These seals are designed to meet tough applications for tugs, trawlers, ferries, fishing boats, offshore supply ships.

And, our patented inflatable backup seals and split face components allow for emergency primary seal inspection, maintenance and repair without dry docking. No other seal offers these advantages.

John Crane Marine offers seal designs for all hull sealing needs—water, grease and oil lubricated systems for propulsion shaft, rudder stock, bulkhead, fin stabilizer and bow thruster applications. Sizes range from 2" to 60" in non-split, partially split and fully split configurations. | Our experience is trusted. Five VLCCs Ordered With

Sulzer RTA84T Engines; Most

Powerful Sulzer Diesel Built

Passes Tests

Five 300,000-dwt tankers have been ordered by the National Ira- nian Tanker Co. from Daewoo Ship- building & Heavy Machinery Ltd., and each will be propelled by a Sulzer 7RTA84T engine of 27,160 kW (36,960 bhp) output. The first ship is due for delivery at the beginning of 1996. The first RTA84T engine, also a seven-cylinder model, is cur- rently being tested in Japan and the second, a 6RTA84T, is being built in

Taiwan. Also in New Sulzer Diesel news, the most powerful Sulzer die- sel engine yet built - a 12-cylinder

RTA84C engine of45,840 kW (62,400 bhp) output - successfully completed its shop trials at the Aioi works of

Diesel United Ltd. in Japan.

This 12RTA84C engine will be installed in a 4,090-teu containership building for the Royal

Nedlloyd Group at the Kure yard of

Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Indus- tries Co. Ltd. (IHI), with delivery due later this year.

To date, approximately 61 Sulzer

RTA84C engines have been deliv- ered, or are on order, with a total output of 2.18 million kW (2.97 mil- lion bhp). A second 12RTA84C en- gine is being built at Mitsubishi

Heavy Industries (MHI) Ltd., Kobe, for a sister containership at

Mitsubishi's Kobe yard. Five more 12RTA84C engines were recently ordered for containerships in Ja- pan, which includes three 4,812-teu vessels contracted by NYK Line (two at IHI and one at MHI) and two 4,743-teu vessels for Mitsui OSK

Lines at IHI. All seven containerships with 12RTA84C en- gines are of the "Post-Panamax" size with beams wider than Panamax.
