Shipboard Computers For

The U.S. Coast Guard

The Ship's Computer is supply- ing the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) with computers to be utilized for navigation purposes on the 49-foot buoytenders being built by Mari- time Contractors, Inc. The installa- tion of a shipboard computer will offer the USCG a wide range of functional capabilities which include tide and current information, vessel maintenance records, captain's logs, weather fax, satellite communica- tions, cellular fax and modem com- munications and more. As the ma- rine industry turns more towards shipboard computers, other options such as electrical systems control, alarm system integration and radar overlays can be added. The advan- tage of all this is the ease of opera- tion and control, lower costs of in- stallation, lower costs on supplies and constantly updated systems.
