FIGHTING CORROSION GTE, Raytheon Supply Trinity-Built Electric Plant Barge
Phase I of a barge-mounted com- ned-cycle plant, the barge portion 'which was built by Trinity's Beau- ont, Texas yard and whose suppli- es include General Electric and aytheon, reportedly began opera- on in late June. Under a $120 dllion turnkey contract, GE In- ustrial Power Systems (GEIPS) and aytheon Engineers & Construc- ts are supplying equipment and jrvices for the 186-MW plant, lo- tted in Puerto Plata, Dominican epublic and owned by Smith/Enron ogeneration Ltd. The plant will apply power to a Dominican utility nder a 16-year agreement.
Phase I is a barge-mounted, mple-cycle gas turbine system pro- ucing 76 MW of power, constructed t Trinity Marine Group's Beau- lont, Texas yard and delivered to le project site May 10 — less than ix months from contract signing, i Phase II, a second barge carrying steam turbine generator, heat re- avery steam generator and two ower boilers will be added. Will- im Wert, vice president and re- ional executive for GEIPS Ameri- as, said he believed this was the rst combined-cycle, barge-mounted electric plant. Smith Cogeneration of Oklahoma City worked with
Raytheon and GE for approximately a year in pre-construction engineer- ing during the development phase of the project, and brought in Enron as a partner to commence construc- tion in November 1993.
Combined-cycle operation is to begin July 1995, bringing total out- put to 186 MW. GE is providing plant conceptual design, combined- cycle performance guarantees and major power island equipment, in- cluding an MS7001EA gas turbine generator, 118-MW steam turbine generator, an HRSG and a plant control system. Raytheon is provid- ing turnkey construction: engineer- ing and design services, all balance- of-plant electrical and mechanical equipment, project and construc- tion management, installation and erection services, plant start-up and testing services.

Continued from page 60) .ssurance, cost controls, on-time essel delivery, etc.), there is a re- idual gain to having a firm in- olved from the very inception of a essel's development. That is, the wner has now established a quali- ied resource, familiar with the com- pete history of the vessel and ca- >able of supporting various mainte- lance and repair requirements, ca- lualty/damage surveys, operational eviews and evaluations and claims nvestigations. For all of these ar- eas, there would be no learning curve involved nor the associated costs incurred. Instead, the ship owner/ operator can be confident in know- ing that the marine technical re- source firm can address these areas of vessel operation with full knowl- edge and direct experience with the vessel's original design, construc- tion and intended purpose.
