Bondareff Named To MarAd

Chief Counsel Post

Maritime Administrator Albert

J. Herberger announced the ap- pointment of Joan M. Bondareff as the Maritime Administration's chief counsel.

She will also serve as a member of the Maritime Subsidy Board. "Joan Bondareff brings a unique perspective and broad expe- rience to MarAd during this critical time for the American maritime in- dustry," Mr. Herberger said.

Her strong maritime background, legal experience and Capitol Hill service will be extremely beneficial to the agency and the maritime in- dustry."

Prior to joining MarAd, she was senior counsel to the House Mer- chant Marine and Fisheries Com- mittee. In that position, she devel- oped and drafted legislation on a wide range of ocean, coastal and maritime issues, including maritime reform and shipbuilding support leg- islation.

Ms. Bondareff spent more than 11 years in various professional staff positions at the Department of

Commerce's National Oceanic and

Atmospheric Administration.

From 1982-87 she served as as- sistant general counsel for Ocean
