Leica Introduces Dual

Channel DGPS Beacon

Receiver

Leica has introduced the MX 52R, a new dual channel DGPS beacon receiver which reportedly provides accuracy levels of 16.4 ft. (5 m) or better when connected to a

Leica DGPS navigator. The MX 52R reportedly provides automatic selection of the best available

DGPS beacon signal by using two independent channels. One chan- nel tracks the best available bea- con signal and sends the demodu- lated DGPS error correction data to the GPS receiver, while the sec- ond channel scans for other DGPS beacon signals and maintains a

DGPS directory.

The MX 52R uses GPS error cor- rections transmitted from marine radio beacons in the 283.5 to 325 kHz band to achieve positioning accuracy of 16.4 ft. or better in realtime. It is compatible with the public broadcast DGPS service operated by the U.S. Coast Guard and other services meeting the
