MTU/DDC Launch Two New Engines At SMM

Power of joint venture brought to life in cooperative creation of Series 2000 and Series 4000 engines

Two new engines jointly developed by MTU

Friedrichshafen and Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) were unveiled at the SMM '96 exhibition in Hamburg, Germany. The two new series are designated the 2000 and 4000 Series, respec- tively. The Series 2000 is available in eight, 12 and 16-cylinder versions, with a power range from 270 to 1,343 kW. The Series 4000 is also available in eight, 12 and 16-cylinder configu- rations, with a power range between 735 and 2,720 kW.

The development, of the two new series is a continuation of the cooperation announced between MTU and DDC two years ago. "The

Corp.," said Dr.-Ing. Gerd-Michael

Wolters, a member of the MTU

Friedrichshafen board. "Apart from the labor component, the development costs were split equally between MTU and DDC."

When it comes to lower-cost fenders, our new one's a hit.

Now there's a popular alternative for high-impact dock protection: LINERITEII from BFGoodrich.

Made of a two-layer polymer/rubber composite, LINERITE II is a superior fendering material for direct-hit areas. That's because it absorbs impact energy and withstands repeated blows. Plus it's environmentally safe and unaffected by organisms.

The BFGoodrich Dock Fendering System.

Use LINERITE II with LINERITE and UHMWP for the comprehensive protection offered by the BFGoodrich Dock Fendering System.

LINERITE has all the benefits of II, plus a third polymer layer for secure mounting in extremely high-impact areas. Because of its long-lasting construction, LINERITE requires minimal mainte- nance and has a lower life-cycle cost.

UHMWP is a solid polymer facing made especially for sidewall applications. Not only does it protect, but also reduces friction and wear significantly.
