New Double Bottom

Alexandra is undergoing major sur/ery at Halter Gulf Repair Inc.

ThJ 420 ft. (128-m) unmanned, self-discharging, bulk cement barge is getting a new double bot- tom, and the 32-year-old electrical system is being completely over- hauled. To minimize downtime, the new double bottom was prefa ricated in 21 modules, avenging ^ust under 50 ton^^ each. ^sponding ssggtiras of the existing dUllUle bottom are being cropped two at a time, in a checkerboard fashion, to minimize stress on the hull, a newly prefab- ricated and painted modules ted liftoeir place.

Two Norbefcg 1,500 kW diesel unloading generators will be replaced by two\600-kW AC gen- erators, each drnran by an EMD 12-645F7B 12-cylinfchir engine, rated at 2,305 bhp at 900

Existing switchboards, panels and motor control cabinets will be replaced as well as wiring associat- ed with the unloading equipment.
