The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is being promoted today as a system that will offer un- precedented effectiveness in search and rescue operations at sea. Carriage re- quirements for the GMDSS are gradually being phased in, and installation will be- come mandatory after February 1, 1999.

JRC is already supplying the total lineup of radio equipment which the GMDSS requires.

This includes VHF, MF, HF and Inmarsat commu- nications equipment.

All JRC GMDSS equipment is type-approved by ZC (China),

NTA (Denmark), ZZF (Germany), PTT (Netherlands), NTRA (Norway), ROS (Russia), MARITEX (Sweden),
