MaK Wins Genset Order

Kiel, Germany-based shipyard

HDW has placed an order worth $7.8 million with MaK Motoren GmbH &

Co. KG for genset engines to be installed in two novel reefer contain- erships. The ship class is a new development for Dole Food Company

Inc., and will have a capacity of approximately 1,040 ft. of refrigerat- ed containers. To cover the electric power requirement for the refriger- ated containers, each of the ships will be equipped with five diesel gen- erator sets for series M 32 with a total power output of 17.3 MW. The engines are scheduled for delivery to the shipyard in the first half of 1999, with completion of the vessels to fol- low later that year.

L6125A diesel engine is now rated at 500 hp for planing hull applications.

Changes to the engine include a new head gasget, as well as new head bolts and fuel lines. The new rating for the L6125 is part of ongoing
