New Operations in China
Captain Eric Southworth, operations man- ager of Fender Care Marine and STS Transfer
Services Ltd. of Norfolk, England, has been involved in three operations off the Chinese coast, contracted to Contichem of Norwalk,
Conn. Capt. Southworth was involved with the supervision of ship to ship (STS) transfers of
LPG for a large Korean ship owner of Seoul and similarly for a major Danish shipping company.
Kimbrell Named Head Of Hvide Marine
Towing
Hvide Marine Inc. has announced the appointment of
James S. Kimbrell as presi- dent of Hvide Marine Towing, the company's offshore and har- bor towing division. He will also be elected a vice president of
Hvide Marine Inc. Mr. Kimbrell was formerly executive vice president, CFO and a director of Bay
Transportation Co. Inc., \Nb\cb Hvide acquired last October. He succeeds Robert A. Santos who is retiring after 36 years with the company.
With revenues of $20.4 million in 1997, Hvide
Marine Towing is a fast-growing part of Hvide
Marine with domestic harbor tug operations in
Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas, as well as an expanding offshore business in the U.S. and Mexican sectors of the Gulf of Mexico.
USCG Seeks 7SIKC Members
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking applications for appointment to membership on the Towing
Safety Advisory Committee [TSI\C). TSAC is a 16 member Federal Advisory Committee that advises the Secretary of Transportation on mat- ters related to shallow-draft inland and coastal waterway navigation and towing safety.
The advice and recommendations of TSAC also assist the U.S. Coast Guard in formulating
U.S. positions at meetings of the International
Maritime Organization (IMO).
Each member serves for a term of three years.
