NEW COLD STORAGE
Lash Terminal
Kodiak, Alaska USA
Lash Corporation is seeking interested parties to build and/or operate a new cold storage facility with 6-12 million pound capacity at our existing ocean terminal.
Kodiak traditionally has rated in the top 3
US ports in terms of seafood volume and value. It is the largest US port in productions of Pacific Halibut and rates highly in Salmon, mid-water, and bottomfish. Currently, there is no significant cold storage capacity in
Kodiak, even though frozen product outnum- bers canned product by a ratio of 3-1.
A recent study commissioned by the
Kodiak Chamber of Commerce has deter- mined that a cold storage plant in Kodiak is financially feasible and has a variety of ben- efits. Year round stable employment for processors, holding capacity for value added enhancement, accumulation of product for larger break bulk refrigerated cargo vessels to reduce freight costs and a plant for buying product, are a few benefits to be delivered from such a facility.
Lash Terminal is a weather protected, private port which has adequate deep draft capacity and the desire to facilitate addi- tional businesses. The terminal is also expect- ed to be a part of a new Foreign Trade
Zone.
